ESL BASIC CIVIL CEREMONY – simplified language

PRESENTATION OF THE BRIDE
Who is it that brings this woman to this man? / Who gives this woman in marriage?  /  “I do”

INTRODUCTION
_(Groom)_ and _(Bride)_ , the moment to which you have looked forward has now come. We have come together in this place to witness the exchange of your vows as you commit yourselves to one another in marriage.

DECLARATION
If anyone can show any reason why they may not legally be joined together, let him say so now.

Please face each other and join hands.

VOWS

_(Groom)_ , please repeat after me your wedding vows to _(Bride)_ .

I, _(Groom)_ ,
take you, _(Bride)_ ,
to be my wife;
to have and to hold
from now on,
in good times and bad times,
for richer, for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
to love and to care for
as long as we both are alive;
and so I promise to be faithful to you.

_(Bride)_ , please repeat after me your wedding vows to _(Groom)_ .

I, _(Bride)_ ,
do take you, _(Groom)_ ,
to be my husband;
to have and to hold
from now on,
in good times and bad times,

and so I promise to be faithful to you.

RINGS
_(Groom)_ , do you give this ring to show that you will keep this promise and perform these vows?  /  I do.

Let these rings continue to be to both of you a symbol of the value, purity and loyalty of true love and a confirmation of the vows you have now made.

DECLARATION
Since you _(Groom)_ and you _(Bride)_ have promised your faithfulness to each other in the presence of this company; and have confirmed the same by the joining of hands and the giving and receiving of rings; now therefore, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Province of Ontario, I pronounce you husband and wife. May you stay together forever.
